Vancouver Convention Centre's Living Roof

video

description

I wanted to direct the story of the site in a way that it highlights its contribution to the present community in Vancouver as well as reflect the importance of what once was on this site. For years, the Convention Centre has been a key icon for Vancouver’s International Relations. The Convention Centre’s construction further redefined itself among the International Community by integrating the largest living non-industrial living roof on their building.

M1 Headphones

This project explores the properties and possibilities of using cork bottle stoppers as a repurposed material.

The project has been a collaboration between the local start-up company Corkit.

With today’s gadgets being made of sustainable semiconductors and plastics, users are unable to appreciate the added beauty of natural materials and perhaps the strong contrast when put aside common industrial materials.

Perk: Disposing of the Disposable

images

video

files

description

The focus of this class project was reducing the consumption of disposable paper cups in coffee shops, by promoting the use of reusable containers such as mugs and tumblers. Through extensive user research and testing, we established that the most effective tactics for behaviour change involve providing benefits to eco-conscious coffee consumers, instead of shaming those who flaunt paper cups. What makes Perk a successful design: - it provides sustainable incentives, - engages the consumer, - uses ubiquitous technology, - uses the barista as a point of intervention, and - complements the customer’s lifestyle

MOBIEL is a tool that addresses the day-to-day needs of commercial urban farmers; meaning people who grow food on urban land and sell it to markets, restaurants and other businesses. This cart has all the basic features of a wheelbarrow with the added benefit of organized tool storage, and the ability to be attached to a bicycle to carry tools and produce across longer distances; for instance, from the farm to the market or from one plot to another.

Baseline™

description

Baseline™ is a window-mounted system that offers a unique way to hang dry your laundry in a densely-populated condo living environment. Positioned up and out of the way, it fully retracts when not in use. Featuring two window blinds, it fully obscures your clothing from any prying eyes outside or inside the appartment. It is unique from other drying racks both by it’s location within the home and the ease in which it can be installed. By leveraging existing sources of energy present in the window space, like solar, wind, and appartment heating, Baseline™ helps pave the way to a future of less energy consumption at home.

The 度 [DU] Bag, along with the object and its sustainable system, is to motivate Chinese Vancouver to be engaged in sustainable practice

Junk Lamp

description

The Junk Lamp is an exercise in sustainability martyrism. There are many cases of people creating objects out of discarded trash. In the final form, these objects tend to resemble just that, objects made of trash. The Junk Lamp attempts to create an attractive functional lamp from trash without showcasing its genealogy. Sustainability will never become common place if it is continually used as a selling point for a product. This is only a detourant to the people that need to accept it the most, the non believers.
