Flight Lamp

description

Flight Lamp is a substantial desk lamp with fine details and materials, that can be shipped deconstructed in an 11"x17" envelope. The shade is laser cut from Spruce aircraft plywood, the dowels are birch hardwood, and the legs are either solid polished Brass or Copper. The materials and finish have been meticulously chosen to match their possible patinas. When the brass oxidizes, it darkens and will compliment its all black counterparts. As for the copper legs, they will turn a minty green, complimenting the mint stained shade. Like most objects that are meant to transcend generations, components of the flight lamp can be removed easily and cared for. The legs are easily removed for polishing if one wants to retain the mirrored finish of the brass or copper.

Junk Lamp

description

The Junk Lamp is an exercise in sustainability martyrism. There are many cases of people creating objects out of discarded trash. In the final form, these objects tend to resemble just that, objects made of trash. The Junk Lamp attempts to create an attractive functional lamp from trash without showcasing its genealogy. Sustainability will never become common place if it is continually used as a selling point for a product. This is only a detourant to the people that need to accept it the most, the non believers.

Sheer Geometry

images

description

Taking cues from traditions of opulence, Sheer Geometry references that most recognizable symbol of wealth, the diamond, to create a lighting system based on the shimmer of a gem. Intended as mood lighting and/or a decorative element in bars, lounges or special retail spaces, the modularity of the piece, achieved by conductive and magnetic connector points, enables its growth for a multiplicity of contexts and for use in a range of spaces.

Light No.4

description

A complex 3-D form that consisted of identical units used in repetition.

The design parameters of the unit was to have properties that provided contact areas and allowed it to be joined by its sides, edges, or corners. For my supplies, I went to an alternative material store and found plastic strips that I thought had great potential. After spending much time getting to know the material and experimenting with connections, I was able to create several unified structures. The translucent quality of the material inspired me to set my piece alight.
