Haulout - Floating Platform for Injured Seal Pups

images

description

Haulout is an inexpensive, easy to make, use, and clean system to aid in seal recoveryat the Vancouver Aquarium’s Marine Mammal Rescue Centre as well as other aquaticmammal rehabilitation centres. It is made almost entirely of recycled materials that cancontinue to be recycled when it is time to replace them. The haul is made up of machine cut pieces of HDPE plastic that can be assembled into afl oating platform which can be expanded for larger seals. The seals can use this platformto rest out of the water as well as warm up. This is an activity that seals often do in the wildthat is diffi cult to facilitate in quarantine tanks such as those at the MMR.

Designed with the intent to become a product of Western and Eastern eating cultures, this 3D-printed utensil utilizes the flexibility of plastic to transform dynamically to the users’ needs.

As a work in progress prototype, the study for an alternative “spork-like” tool was necessitated from a sustainability standpoint in restaurant deliveries and take-outs.

Specifically, it was inspired by my experience with ordering take-out in Chinese restaurants that often included a myriad of utensils that were either unnecessary or didn’t include my preferred eating tool.

Infinutty

images

description

Designed to be a solution for the consumption of shelled nuts, Infinutty contains two pockets that separate unopened nuts from their empty shells. The dynamic act of eating any shelled nut is immediately followed with a shift from being desirable to a nuisance. These experiences, especially the repeated consumption in one seating, inspired the duo container.

Fabricated with 0.8mm aircraft plywood for its malleability, the piece was first laser cut to create its shape and tabs for textiles to loop onto and then hand bent with steam to create rigidity. From there, the fabric component was cut to shape and had button holes prepared to create a hammock-like pouch that held the weight of the nuts through the laser cut tabs.

Temporary Scars

The purpose of this design is to provide those who have dermatographia with tools to create intentional marks on the skin.

This act of creating marks and artwork on the skin allows the beautification of the skin condition and propels it beyond being seen simply as a skin condition that they suffer from. This allows those with dermatographia to feel more in control of their skin’s reactions and of what will show up in the form of red, inflamed skin.

3D Concept Designs

Some design concepts of realistic contexted objects. These designs are accuratly conecpted within stories behind each one of them. The bike projct for example, uses an Arduino Uno device plus an Accelerometer to be used for the bike signalling system for leaning left or right as well as could be used in intersections.

The other design concepts are inspired by fantasy and imaginary concepts and prodcued by clay, 3D print, and Laser Cut ABS models.
