EcoMUSICology

A dynamic public education project in partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation and the Roundhouse Community Centre.

This truly collaborative project includes 17 art students, 3 musicians, and 3 city planners all sharing 1 goal: to promote the value of connected green spaces across Metro Vancouver.

Centre Georges Pompidou recently commissioned Associate Professor, Patrik Andersson, to write catalogue text for the exhibition Niki de Saint Phalle at the Grand Palais, Paris and Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao.

The Museum of Vancouver invites Vancouverites to explore and celebrate innovation in action. 30+ designers, live, in concert and stationed throughout the museum’s galleries, discuss their work during Why I Design, a Vancouver Design Week feature event and party Friday, September 19.

Congratulations to third year student Christian Huizenga whose piece, Bench Way, was selected as the winner of the First Capital Realty Sculpture Contest. Christian will work with representatives from First Capital Realty, Emily Carr, engineers and fabricators over the summer to complete the project (see maquette) which will be located at Harbour Front Centre in North Vancouver.

The jury wishes to thank all of the students for their proposals, in particular the short-listed students whose maquettes reflected both their creativity and earnestness. 

The Faculty of Culture + Community empowers students to forge creative, meaningful and rigorous relationships with community organizations, institutions, industry and universities. These partnerships are driven by innovative curriculum that responds to changing social conditions. Comprised of diverse curriculum areas including the Foundation program, Critical + Cultural Studies and the CRCP Major, Community Projects and the interdisciplinary SPACE (Social Practice and Community Engagement) Minor, this faculty offers students experiential learning opportunities in a variety of community contexts.

The demise of the honey bee, up-purposing green waste, urban bird habitat, the global mobility of food; artists’ projects inform social, ecology activism that calls us all to change. Cultivate features the work of artists who draw on urban ecology as subject-matter and material to explore environmental concerns and the city.

Spur Vancouver - a new national festival of politics, art and ideas - launches in Vancouver in partnership with Simon Fraser University - Woodwards with an eclectic mix of debates and discussions. On the theme of Global Power Shift, Spur Vancouver will explore the rise, fall and re-imagination of societies.
