Artist Talk by Federico Herrero

The Contemporary Art Gallery in partnership with Emily Carr University of Art + Design presents: An Artist Talk by Federico Herrero.

The Costa Rican artist Federico Herrero is well-known as an abstract painter who uses unconventional locations and surfaces as a context for his large-scale graphic murals. While Herrero at times works traditionally inside galleries, painting on canvas or directly on the walls, his works are primarily site-specific and more commonly produced outside as part of a cityscape.

Since he began exhibiting his art in the late 1970s, Vancouver-based artist Ken Lum has developed a complex body of work that includes performances in public spaces, sculptures produced from rented furniture, studio portrait photographs that merge with faux corporate logos, paintings of incomprehensible language, mazes made of mirrors inscribed with texts, and works that mimic the signage found in low-end strip malls.
