Koji Yamamura | Mastery of the Form

Koji Yamamura, the esteemed Japanese animation filmmaker, will be giving a presentation about his work at Emily Carr. Mr. Yamamura is arguably the greatest short-form, auteur animator in Japan and most internationally successful to date. He graduated from Tokyo Zokei University in 1987, and in 1993 founded Yamamura Animation Inc. He has produced short animated films for children, TV commercial and video works using clay, photos, colour pencils, ink and various techniques.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Fred Herzog | Public Lecture

Emily Carr University of Art + Design is proud to feature a lecture by renowned Vancouver photographer and 2010 Honorary Doctorate recipient, Fred Herzog.

Fred Herzog has been active in Vancouver's art scene for more than forty years. Born in Germany, he came to Vancouver in 1953. Since that time, he has produced a substantial body of photographs, taking urban life in Vancouver -second-hand shops, vacant lots, neon signage and the crowds of people who have populated the city's streets over the past fifty years-as his primary subject.

A Tale of Two Cities: Alcuin Award Ceremonies

Two ceremonies take place this fall, celebrating the winners of the Alcuin Awards; the first, an event in Toronto, October 4, followed by a free public event in Vancouver, October 21.

At the Vancouver ceremony, Alcuin Society Directors will present awards in two different categories. Winners of the 2010 Alcuin Awards for Excellence in Book Design in Canada will receive their awards from Richard Hopkins. The Robert R. Reid Lifetime Achivement in the Book Arts award for 2010 will be presented to one of the family members of the winner, the late Jim Rimmer, by Eric Swanick.

Art Meets Science in New Fuel Cell Demonstration Project

Emily Carr University of Art + Design and the National Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation (NRC-IFCI) have teamed up for a technology demonstration project that harnesses the clean power of hydrogen and fuel cells in a sustainably designed visitor kiosk. The kiosk will be located in the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Gateway technology demonstration and exhibit centre of NRC-IFCI’s LEED Gold certified building on the University of British Columbia’s south campus.
