They will be here on campus to give a presentation on their new slate of animation feature productions and tell you all about the IPAX-run program.

Please join us for an Artist Talk by Mircea Cantor, on the occasion of his solo exhibition at the Rennie Collection at Wing Sang.

The reflective work of Romanian artist and Prix Marcel Duchamp winner Mircea Cantor (b. 1977) is the subject of a Rennie Collection at Wing Sang exhibition this winter. This is the first solo presentation of his work in Canada. While Cantor works in a number of different mediums, he is best known for his ostensibly simple video narratives that slowly build to subtle but powerful climax leaving the audience with conclusions that keep them thinking well beyond the exhibition.

Material Matters is pleased to present a special evening with The Plastic Bank, a social enterprise turning turning recycled ocean plastic into filament for 3D printing, that can be used to help lift people out of poverty.
 
The world has already produced over 4 trillion pounds of plastic and almost all of that plastic still exists today, and, it can be recycled. The Plastic Bank is establishing centres in social impact areas with high amounts of poverty and plastic pollution by setting up exchange and recycling centers.

Robert Youds will be speaking about his work at this year's first Twilight Hour: Monday, October 6th at 5:30pm in room 410B SB.

Robert Youds was born in Burnaby holds a BFA from UVic and an MFA from York University and is currently a Professor of Visual Arts at University of Victoria.

“Since the 1980s, Robert Youds has conducted a singular investigation of the material conditions of the pictorial--a path that has led him from paintings with cut-out apertures through stretched lines of colour made of strands of latex and velvet cushions bound with ropes through to his recent constructions incorporating fluorescent, neon and LED lights” - Barry Schwabsky

Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller will provide an overview of their works and practice, focusing on the exhibition Lost in the Memory Palace, a selected survey exhibition opening June 20, 2014 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Lost in the Memory Palace takes as its focus ‘the room,’ with a selection of Cardiff and Miller's work from the mid-1990s to today, presenting key early installations such as The Dark Pool (1995) and The Muriel Lake Incident (1999) and recent works including The Killing Machine (2007) and Experiment in F# Minor (2013).
