Wearable Paper Sandals

description

Designed using a minimalist aproach, the sandals provide full support and extensive flexibility although the materials consist of only bristol paper and white glue. After researching the different body movements when walking, the shift of weight, and the amount of support required for each area of the foot, the sandals were successfully created with as few sheets of paper as possible. Durable cell patterns were used and designated to the heel and toe portions of each sole, thereby keeping the sandals lightweight by omitting unecessary cell patterning in the central area of the soles. The adjustable straps provide a comforting fit to any size foot, offer remarkable flexibility and converge with the minimalist aesthetic.

a pair of paper shoes

description

the objective of this project was to make a pair of functioning shoes. The challenge was to use only paper and glue to construct them.

Inspired by ancient Egyptian sandals, and using principles of modularity and origami, I made a pair of sandals that were able to hold my weight. Issues like ergonomics and gait were researched in order to successfully complete this project.
