Barking Mad with Jordan Benwick

images

video

description

Barking Mad is an interactive wearable; an urban survival coat that helps shy, stressed people deal with situations of urban overcrowding.  Proximity sensors respond to infringements on personal space with the sound of barking dogs.  The coat barks like a small poodle if the space infringement is not too severe, and like a rottweiler if someone gets too close.

Alchemy: Turn Junk into Gold!

description

This was a Special Project for Design Futures. For this assignment, I decided to take something that you wold normally throw away, and turn it into something that you could wear on your body.

The first part was to create clothing out of bubble wrap, and the second part was to design jewelry out of discarded cutlery.

Each of these garment pieces are targeted to a wide range of users including: people with spinal cord injury (T1- down), people with spinal polio injuries. Kalshoven's combination of the trousers, coat, and leather wrap are designed to allow people with paraplegia to dress themselves independently with style.

These garment pieces are designed with different problems in mind. Winter coats tend to bulge up in unwanted areas; Pants made for wheelchair users have a complete opening at the back; Long sleeves get dirty even when gloves are worn.

A Tale of Two Seasons

description

Laundry basics haven’t changed over time but changes in technology today make them more important than ever to understand. The exchange of this knowledge is absent in today's society. A Tale of Two Seasons is a senior thesis project aimed at educating the everyday fashionista on how to care for their clothing. This book is a resource of knowledge intended to empower and give individuals who love clothing control over their condition. A Tale of Two Seasons presents a seasonal outlook on clothing care, fabric knowledge, monthly tasks, stain removal, storage and seasonal transition tips.

Foxhunt Vintage

description

Foxhunt Vintage is Vancouver-based online vintage store that distributes its clothing all over the world. This lookbook was created for the Fall 2009 season. Not only was I given the job to create the print edition of the lookbook, but I was also given the freedom to art direct and photograph all the models and clothing featured alongside owner, Jennifer Cook. Shot at VanTech Highschool, the concept was to create a grunge, mid 80’s/early 90’s aesthetic in order to connotate a “back-to-school” theme.

Fall Into Colour

description

These spreads are based off of a publication similar to the Australian magazine, “Frankie.” Like the inspiration publication, this magazine is geared towards a slightly alternative and yet, still relatively mainstream audience who is interested in fashion, but also interested in art and culture.

The art directed story of this spread is based on “the bounty of the harvest.” We took the colors I found in the bounty of the fall harvest and incorporated them into the fall fashion color palette.

Our job was to art direct and shoot the photographic content for the publication and lay it out onto spreads, which would appeal to a target audience similar to that of “Frankie” magazine.
