Wearable Paper Sandals

description

Designed using a minimalist aproach, the sandals provide full support and extensive flexibility although the materials consist of only bristol paper and white glue. After researching the different body movements when walking, the shift of weight, and the amount of support required for each area of the foot, the sandals were successfully created with as few sheets of paper as possible. Durable cell patterns were used and designated to the heel and toe portions of each sole, thereby keeping the sandals lightweight by omitting unecessary cell patterning in the central area of the soles. The adjustable straps provide a comforting fit to any size foot, offer remarkable flexibility and converge with the minimalist aesthetic.

"Cardstock Sandals"

description

The aim of this project was to design footwear using only cardstock and PVA glue. Using the least amount of materials possible, the designer was expected to work efficiently and with innovation. Not only would the shoe or sandal need to be designed ergonomically with the user’s foot, but also with structural and strength considerations. Designers created cell-like structures to meet the mandatory thickness, and ultimately support their own weight.

Designing Footwear

description

CONCEPT  A pair of sandals designed using cellular structure and a minimalist aesthetic. DEVELOPMENT  Using structures inspired from nature, the soles of the sandals prove to be durable and light weight while also providing a custom fit. Materials used were limited to 2-ply bristol board and white glue.

The Sandal Project

images

description

This assignment required us to create a fitted pair of sandals using cellular structure that could support our weight. The only materials we were allowed to use throughout the construction were 2 ply bristol board and white glue. During the presentation we were required to walk back and forth in the classroom to prove they could move with the foot comfortably.

Thanks to a hinged sole and strategic strap placement, I consider this project to be a success!
