    The rebrand came out of an assignment to create a typographic logo for a local festival or event. As a member of a local folk band, I felt like I had good insight into the Vancouver Folk Music Festival which has historically been lacking in branding.

    This project was a challenge to tell a story using only typography. The story was chosen from Arthurian legend and I considered how the story would have been originally told using the oral tradition. I constructed the typography in a way that would put emphasis and feeling into the words and allow the reader to tell the story aloud with expression.

    This project began as a kinetic typography project for class, but once it was uploaded to Vimeo, it caught the eye of the marketing team at Costa Farms. They contacted me to have their branding applied to the video.

    The video is a promotional piece on houseplants and the benefits of having them in your home. I began with a storyboard, created icons and type, animated those in After Effects, recorded the voice over, and had a friend help with the music.

    Absent is a geometric modular typeface that is friendly and bubbly but the missing pieces add a sense of unease. I conceptualized a personality for this typeface which was a kid who tries hard to be cool by pretending they are not really good at something when they are, so they create purposeful imperfections in their persona to fit in which ends up being a little silly and awkward.
