Wellworn

description

Textile waste is currently the third largest contributor to the solid waste stream in Vancouver, amounting to more than 33,600 tonnes a year. In addition, most textiles that are thrown out still have a usable life—which indicates that there is a strong need to shift our thinking to accommodate the sustainable use of textiles in our daily lives.

Wellworn is a Vancouver-based resource and skill sharing website which enables people to distribute and access knowledge in working with textiles (ex. repairs, alterations, and creating from scratch). People can also connect with others to learn, teach or share projects amid the community. This project aims to encourage a more conscientious relationship with the clothing and material we own. Through documenting the sustainable use of clothing and textiles within Vancouver, Wellworn also showcases the value of caring about your clothes and reveals the different ways people already do so.
