29th Annual Foundation Student Show

Foundation Show 2008

The Institute’s first year program has a 29 year tradition of a year-end Foundation Show. This exhibit is a combination of work by individual students and includes a selection of work, by faculty, considered to be indicative of classroom activities and explorations over the year.

The show runs in the Concourse Gallery at ECI, April 18-27, 2008, between 9am-5pm.

ECI Aboriginal Student Art Exhibition

ECI Aboriginal Student Art Exhibition features a lecture by Gerald McMaster, Friday, March 14, SB Room 301 SB (Theatre), 3 pm.

A reception will follow at 5pm in the Concourse Gallery. Everyone welcome.

Rogue Waves

A survey exhibition that emphasizes the vitality of painting today in British Columbia. Rogue Waves curated by Rob Nicholls features painters from the Emily Carr Institute that push the boundaries and possibilities of painting in the contemporary arena.

Meyer Family Vineyards Painting Competition Winners Announced

Meyer Family Vineyards are owned and operated by Jak and Janice Meyer in the pristine Naramata bench land overlooking Okanagan Lake. As part of the inaugural launch of the Tribute Series, Meyer Family Vineyards is paying homage to influential artist Emily Carr through a painting competition. Emily Carr Institute students and alumni were invited to enter a painting for a chance to share in $5,000 in prize money with first place receiving $2,500.

The competition was juried by Rita Beiks, (96) “Emily Goes Commercial”, Philippe Raphanel, part-time Faculty, and Cate Rimmer, Curator.

Spirit of Place/Sport, Culture + Sustainability: BC Young Artists Exhibition

Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design (ECI), in collaboration with the Arts Umbrella, Save the Children Canada, and the 2008 Cultural Olympiad present an exhibition featuring the work of 75 young artists ranging in age from 6-16, selected and mentored by alumni of ECI.

This is Green

This is Green explores the idea of being 'green'. What does it mean to be environmentally aware? How can we incorporate effective change into our lives? What is our relationship with the environment? The show is curated by the Sustainability Working Group (SWiG) at Emily Carr Institute and includes a broad range of works through a variety of media, disciplines and perspectives.
