Ruth Wittenberg Renewed as BCAIU President

The Board of the British Columbia Association of Institutes and Universities (BCAIU) has announced the renewed appointment of Ms. Ruth Wittenberg as President through December 2017.

Ms. Wittenberg was first appointed to this position in January of 2010. Prior to this, she held numerous positions within the BC government. 

BCAIU represents the interests of eight education organizations in BC -- the  British Columbia Institute of Technology; Capilano University; Emily Carr University; the Justice Institute of BC; Kwantlen Polytechnic University; the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology; University of the Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island University.

Vancouver is a city that celebrates its multicultural tapestry, and the University offers international students a chance to thrive in its rich artistic environment.

Coming to Emily Carr means an opportunity to meet people and share your culture and ideas with others. The International Office offers arrival programs in September and January, with orientations to the University. Its staff are dedicated to providing advising and support services for international students throughout their studies, and regularly hosts social events for students to engage with others in the Emily Carr community.

Emily Carr's S3D Centre Creates First Variable High Frame Rate Live Action Film

Research conducted at our Stereoscopic 3D (S3D) Centre investigates the use of variable frame rates with the production of "L’ ÂME SOEUR (SOULMATES) 3D".  The short film incorporates scenes at 24, 48, and 60 fps to demonstrate the creative potential of using variable frame rates within a narrative context.

For 87 years, our esteemed faculty and distinguished alumni, staff, and students have made significant contributions to the world of art, design and media. We reflect on some of the highlights of 2012.

Luigi Allemano (current Low Residency MAA candidate) composed the music for the Oscar nominated animation Dimanche/Sunday.

Heather Anderson (’98) was recently appointed as the new curator at Carleton University Art Gallery.

Our Alumni are Growing BC and Canada's Economy

Emily Carr recently conducted an alumni employment survey with Vancouver-based market research and consulting firm Vision Critical.

According to findings, 92% of grads are employed, an increase of 6% since a 2006 survey. The survey received a high response rate,  with over 1/3 of invited graduates from 1996-2011 participating. And, of those working, 29% own their own business, are self-employed, or are themselves employers.

The journal is designed, edited, produced and marketed by undergraduates in communication design with article contributions from students in both the graduate and undergraduate programs, alumni and faculty.
