Emily Carr University of Art + Design has received a rank of 11 by the 2012 Red Dot Design, as one of the most innovative art and design universities in the world. Emily Carr is the only Canadian institution to be named. Several Emily Carr industrial design projects have received recognition for design excellence from Red Dot.

Kate Armstrong Appointed New Director of the Social + Interactive Media (SIM) Centre

Emily Carr University of Art + Design is pleased to announce that Kate Armstrong has been appointed the new Director of the Social + Interactive Media (SIM) Centre. Kate will also be overseeing the NSERC Innovation Enhancement Grant currently held by Emily Carr.

Kate brings a wealth of experience in community-engaged art practice and curation. She has taught as Sessional Faculty at Emily Carr in the Masters program and Interactive + Social Media Arts.

The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal will be presented throughout the year to deserving Canadians to celebrate their achievements and to recognize those who have dedicated themselves to service for their country. The medal marks the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada.

NATURAL CAPITAL is a community projects course in partnership with Canada's leading environmental organization, the David Suzuki Foundation (DSF) through the Faculty of Culture + Community. Through a dynamic and collaborative approach to documentary practices, students aim to build meaningful community connections and create digital narratives featuring diverse community perspectives on nature's benefits in Vancouver.  Students have also had a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with national project partners at OCAD University, Toronto.

The Red Dot Design ranking seeks to honour leaders in innovation for their pursuance of design excellence through a compilation of an organization’s achievements in the Red Dot Design Award over the past 5 years.
