Loud Crow Interactive | New SIM Centre research project in e-book design

The Social+Interactive Media (SIM) Centre is entering into an exciting new partnership with Loud Crow Interactive, a successful Vancouver-based company that specializes in richly animated ebook applications for children’s fiction. Graduate and undergraduate students will work with the team at Loud Crow Interactive to expand the capabilities of their current platform and design a new series of book chapters for genres beyond children’s fiction. This is an important opportunity for Social+Interactive Media (SIM) Centre to continue building new initiatives in ebook design, and for Loud Crow to prepare their platform for wider use by industry partners.

New Foundation Portfolio Requirements

Foundation portfolio submissions will now focus on one central project, rather than a series of pieces. This special project will reflect the individual relationship to and existence in community, and how it affects a personal creative practice. The project should incorporate a range of media, including (but not limited to) film, illustration, communication design, integrated media, photography, painting, creative writing, sound design, performance, drawing, video, industrial design, sculpture, interaction design and ceramics. Emily Carr Recruitment Trip to Southeast Asia

Prospective students and those who wish to learn more about Emily Carr are welcome to meet the Carr recruitment representative during their visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from October 16 – 18, 2013, Manila, Philippines from October 19 – 23, 2013, Singapore from October 24 – 25, 2013, and Jakarta, Indonesia from October 26 – 27, 2013.

Recruitment activities will include individual school visits, Study in Canada fairs (in conjunction with the Canadian embassies and Canadian Education International), along with the availability for individual one-on-one meetings and portfolio reviews by appointment. All are welcome to attend the events below, as they are free and open to the public.

Current is a multi-platform design journal that exists to showcase creative, practice-based and applied research.

A project of the Faculty of Design + Dynamic Media and the University's Research and Industry Office, the publication is written, edited, illustrated, and photographed by a collective of faculty, research assistants, staff and students. Current functions as a site for design researchers, design academics, students, professional designers, entrepreneurs, and the business community to reflect on contemporary design thinking—products and processes.

Emily Carr Recruitment Trip to Seoul, Korea

Prospective students and those who wish to learn more about Emily Carr University of Art + Design are welcome to meet with recruitment representatives during their visit to Seoul, Korea from September 11 – 16, 2013.

Recruitment activities will include individual school visits, a portfolio review event with representatives from all over North America, and a presentation in conjunction with the Embassy of Canada in Seoul. All are welcome to attend the events below, as they are open to the public.

Emily Carr University of Art + Design is pleased to announce the appointment of Aoife MacNamara as Dean, Faculty of Visual Art + Material Practice, Audain School of Visual Arts. Dr. MacNamara's appointment will commence in August 2013.

Dr. MacNamara joins the University from Wimbledon College of Art/University of the Arts, London, UK, where she hs been serving as Fine Art Program Director. She holds a Ph.D. in Fine Art from the University of Ulster, Belfast.

The family of prolific Kitsilano artist Mary Plumb Blade are having a one-day public sale of her works. Mary’s nephew, Hylon Plumb, is hoping to find new homes for many of her paintings at very reasonable prices. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to Emily Carr to provide additional funding for the Mary Plumb Blade Graduation Award which was established in 1995. Honouring Our Past

This past year has been an incredibly eventful one for Emily Carr University of Art + Design. After years of hard work and dedication by Dr. Ron Burnett and our Board of Governors, Premier Christy Clark announced that the B.C. government would invest $113 million in a new visual, media and design facility for Emily Carr at the Great Northern Way Campus.

Emily Carr Launches Unique Indiegogo Campaign

Thanks to Board of Governors member Bob Rennie, who created a generous matching fund, Emily Carr will now be able to match donations made by university alumni. In celebration of this new fund, Emily Carr has launched a campaign on Indiegogo, the world’s largest crowdfunding platform. This campaign, called Match It Up, includes a video produced by Leah Nelson and Jay Grandin, Emily Carr alumni and founders of Giant Ant.
