Sessional Faculty member Holly Schmidt has invited sustainability educator and Assistant Professor, Duane Elverum, to join her for a walking dialogue through the Olympic Village and South East False Creek as part of Grow. Other Sights for Artist’s Projects presents Grow, a series of walks, workshops and creative experiments in urban architecture exploring social and ecological sustainability in South East False Creek.

Associate Professor Rita Wong's book, forage, has been selected as the Canada Reads Poetry 2011 Champion!

Associate Professor Rita Wong will have her book, forage, defended by the poet Sonnet L’Abbe in the Canada Reads Poetry debate taking place over the next few weeks.

Canada Reads Poetry is a three-week online event that coincides with National Poetry Month. It features five panelists definding five collections of poetry, with a winner chosen by a public vote.

Sessional faculty member Howard Ursuliak's work will be included in the group exhibition; Space Beyond the Boxes: the Choice of Destiny, at the Shang Dong Contemporary Art Center in Nanjung, China.

This collaborative project was developed through a series of conversations with Xia Wei, Weide Xu and a group of artists in China. This selection of Ursuliak's small color photographs further looks at his interest in the spacing of lived experience within the pictorial frame and a corresponding displaced agency of the photographic image.

Associate Professors Diyan Achjadi, Glen Lowry and Sandra Semchuk will be speaking at The Land We Are, Arts, Culture, and the Politics of Reconciliation at the Colloquium and Book Launch on Friday, April 8, 2011.

The Land We Are asks how might the development of collaborative practices between Indigenous, racial minority, diasporic, and other cultural communities convey a sense of shared historical accountability in establishing a meaningful politics of reconciliation in Canada?

More than 350 distinguished design and building professionals, including architects, engineers, project teams, industry sponsors and guests gathered March 15th to honour the nominees and winners of the 2011 Wood WORKS! BC Wood Design Awards.

The 7th annual awards, which took place in Vancouver, recognized leadership and innovation in wood use while providing an opportunity to publicly salute and encourage continued excellence in the building and design community.

The City of Vancouver Public Art Program announced a new video animation by Associate Professor Diyan Achjadi, currently screening
on the double outdoor screens, operated by CoreVision, at the north-east corner of Robson and Granville Streets. The four segments of the video
narrative are interspersed with advertising content on the screens.

In these animations, Diyan's avatar "Girl" encounters the landmarks of
Vancouver and interacts with them. As she picks them up, they become a
miniature collection of objects. After landing in Vancouver, Girl visits
the Harbour Centre Tower, the Gastown Steam Clock, Gassy Jack's statue
and Science World.

Dennis Burke | Musical Scores + Sound Design

Associate Professor Dennis Burke is a multi award-winning composer and sound designer for film and television with over 100 films to his credit. His work can be seen regularly on network and cable television, film festivals, galleries and commercial theatres worldwide. Dennis has been a professional musician for the past 30 years, performing extensively throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. 

War In the Mind, a one-hour documentary directed by Judy Jackson will have its world premiere in June 2011 on CBC Television.  Dennis completed the musical score for War in the Mind.
