Stephanie Frame | Semblance of Aura

Posted: Mon, 2011-01-24 15:12

Science helps to define our universe, yet so much remains unknown. The unexplainable becomes poetic through our efforts to understand. Current fourth year student Stephanie Frame's practice is driven by a desire to render the 'supernatural' visible, and search for a reaction beyond our everyday expectations. Much of Stephanie’s work is formed through a physical process, primarily printmaking, but also includes other forms such as sculpture and bookmaking. She finds "the manual process of printmaking allowing for an intimacy and visceral connection with this intangible subject matter.” As her artistic practice evolves, her investigation into the ephemeral unknown grows.

Students in HUMN 311/GEVA 310 Black Holes and Other Transformations of Energy have their work on exhibit at TRIUMF - Canada's Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics.

In Fall 2010, they participated in TRIUMF’s Artist in Residence program. During two visits in October, students  met with physicists, toured the laboratory and spent studio time around the facility developing ideas and inspiration for visual arts projects. Through contemporary art in its many forms the narrative of science enters the human story and becomes materially transformed.

The exhibit runs from December 3 to 17, 2010.
