Asian-Canadian Filmmakers Showcase

Local emerging British Columbia filmmakers of Asian-Canadian heritage, or local aspiring filmmakers telling stories that explore Asian-Canadian culture, are invited to submit their full-length or short film to the Asian-Canadian Filmmakers Showcase.

Selected films will air on Shaw Multicultural Channel, in May 2008 during explorASIAN 2008 celebrating Asian Heritage Month. Your film could be seen by over 740,000 households in the B.C. Lower Mainland.

Katherine Soucie's Lace Series 2007 Wins Design Award

Vancouver-based clothing and textile designer (and current ECI student), Katherine Soucie, was one of seven international designers selected to receive the 2008 Green Design Award. The Green Design Award is the first of its kind to honor and reward designers' creativity, from around the world, for their excellence in the disciplines of branding, print, packaging, environments, fashion, photography, art, and design green. Ms. Soucie's Lace Series 2007 was selected as the winner in the Fashion Category for 2008.

Eight 4th year Emily Carr students in the External BFA program at North Island College will be exhibiting their final work of the Fall term at the Comox Valley Art Gallery.

Digital Diversity - Electronic Media Creation Competition on Immigration

In Spring 2007, Radio Canada International (RCI viva) invited Canadians between the ages of 18 and 35 to submit their short film or podcast (audio file) on the theme of immigration.

Katherine Soucie, a third year General Fine Arts student, is the owner/designer of clothing line, Sans Soucie. Her experimentation over the last three years with non traditional materials and eco-friendly textile processes has resulted in an extensive body of work for which she has received a number of design awards such as the 2006 BC Creative Achievement Award, and the Circle Craft Excellence in Craft Award in both 2005/06. Shared Vision magazine features some of Soucie's latest work on the September cover.

ECI Students Awarded First Place at the ARTS 2007 Exhibition

ARTS 2007 was presented by the Arts Council of Surrey at the Surrey Art Gallery this past summer. Now in its 23rd year, this juried exhibition celebrates the diverse artistic talents of both established and emerging visual artists. The exhibition featured fifty-seven works by artists from Surrey and the surrounding region.

Bonnie McKibbin, current ECI student, was awarded first place for her piece Shoe Shells (wax, plaster, string), in the 3-D Works and Fibre Arts category.

IKEA is seeking students who are interested in decorating/transforming small pieces of furniture to be auctioned off in support of Canwest's Raise-a-Reader program.
