Call for Entries - Moving Stories Film Festival

BookShorts Moving Stories is calling for creative treatments for a short two-minute film inspired by one of three selected literary works in a range of genres – fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Ther jury will review all submissions and will award $1,500 to help make the film. This offer is exclusively for students and two-year alumni of ECIAD. The winning film will be screened at the Moving Stories program at Vancouver International Writers Festival (October 21 – 26).

Melanie Coles - Where on Earth is Waldo?

Melanie Coles (08 undergrad student) worked with a group of Emily Carr students and friends to paint a huge “Waldo” which she hid on an undisclosed rooftop awaiting the next Google Earth fly-by. Once the photos of Vancouver refresh, a global Where’s Waldo? game begins!

But the global attention to her grad project has already begun. Her blog about the project has received over 4,000 hits from Brazil alone. The interest is still expanding with many blogs writing about the project.

Industrial Design student, Zachary Fluker's BC Bench was shortlisted for Vancouver's 'REST: Public Seating Design Competition'. BC Bench is a manifestation of dynamic public seating, and a unique visual and physical seating experience. Through a process of 5-axis CNC machining, this design, made of larch wood, seeks to showcase the craft of woodworking in the twenty-first century and provoke the imagination of the user.

ECI Students at IDS West

ECI students host an exhibition space at the interior design show, IDS West 2008. The exhibition space, also designed by ECI students, showcases a diverse collection of innovative and decorative work. Expect to see everything from furniture design and lights to ceramics, paintings, mixed-media and photography.

Yellow Pages, one of the event's main sponsors, contracted ECI students to design a contemporary, eye-catching display for the show. Be sure to stop by to check out this booth!

Vancouver Student Film Festival - Call for Submissions

The third annual Vancouver Student Film Festival will take place on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the VIFC Vancity Theatre.

Films must be submitted with full applications fees by April 19, 2008 to be eligible for screening. Films submitted before March 1, 2008 are eligible for a discounted admission fee. Submit early and submit often. Any shorts produced in a BC post-secondary institution in the past three years are eligible. Visit the submissions page for full details.

The Paul & Ben Film Festival is looking for submissions from independent and emerging filmmakers. Short film, documentary, animation and sound pieces may be submitted for their March 2008 show.

Politically Incorrect Series: Talking to a Girl I Have a Crush On

Josan Pinon, a third year Photo Major at Emily Carr, is one of five winners of the SNAPStar! $1,500 TD Award. Josan was chosen by three jurors who felt her work best represented the high quality of emerging talent, as well as showing a great deal of consistency and promise. Other schools who participated were Concordia College, NSCAD, OCAD and Ryerson University with a total of 76 students taking part in the competition.
