First year student Sanghyun Samuel Kim is exhibiting his recent mixed media sculpture, Wastebasket 2 Go, at Maple Ridge Art Gallery. His work was selected for One 4 One, a group juried exhibition by Maple Ridge Arts Council. The subtext of the title One 4 One intends to convey that there is "one piece of art for everyone."

Krista Jahnke: Vinterra Villas Photo Competition Winner

Krista Jahnke, current fourth year student, has been announced as the winner of the Vinterra Villas Photo Competition. Krista was the recipient of a $2,000 cash prize for her winning photograph. Emily Carr students were invited to participate in the Vinterra Villas Photo Competition, where all photo submissions had to be relevant to architecture and design of Vinterra.

Chun Hua Catherine Dong (current second year student) and Chun Chun Liao (current third year student) have a group show at Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver.

Both of their paintings were award Honorable Mention and exhibited at the Roundhouse Centre from October 1 to 14, 2008, as part of SEARCHIN, the 14th Annual Exhibition of Chinese Canadian Artists Federation in Vancouver.

Congratulations to Emily Carr student, Lily Bergsmarockenbach, whose label design was selected for Granville Island Brewing’s limited release, Jolly Abbot Abbey Ale.

Emily Carr University would also like to extend thanks to Granville Island Brewing, who is donating 25¢ from each bottle sold to a scholarship fund for a deserving Emily Carr University student. You can find Jolly Abbot Abbey Ale in select liquor stores as well as in the retail store located on Granville Island.

Zain Burgess, current fourth year student, has a project entitled Add Noise at PROGRAM Gallery in Berlin. Add Noise is an investigation of the subtle organizers of urban space - the everyday artifacts that inhabit our shared environment...

PROGRAM is a nonprofit project aimed at testing the disciplinary boundaries of architecture through collaborations with other fields. PROGRAM provides a discursive platform for artists, architects, critics and curators to explore ideas through exhibitions, performances, workshops, lectures, and residencies.

Alex Cho Receives Second Place at the World Korean Language Broadcasts Conference

Alex Young Hwa Cho (MAA Candidate, 2008) received second place for the "Seoul Prize" at the annual World Korean Language Broadcasts Conference, sponsored by the major Korean TV network KBS. The prize was awarded for Cho's internship documentary at TV KOREA this summer. How To Draw Happiness, Cho's documentary features the life and works of Vancouver artist David Khang (2000/Sessional Faculty). The documentary was broadcast locally on Shaw Multicultural Channel in August, and will be broadcast nationally in South Korea through KBS TV and KBS.com.

Vinterra Villas Photo Competition

Emily Carr credit students are invited to participate in the Vinterra Villas Photo Competition for the opportunity to win a $2,000 prize. All photos must be taken at Vinterra within the last four weeks, and the submission deadline is October 15, 2008 at 11:59 pm PST. The photo subject must be relevant to Architecture and Design of Vinterra in one of the following areas:

  • Exterior Architecture
  • Interior Architecture and Design
