Congratulations to both Sonny Assu (02) and Katherine Soucie, fourth year Fine Art student, who have been included in the Vancouver Sun’s list of the top, up-and-coming artists to look for. Almost Famous: Meet tomorrow’s bright lights highlights individuals they believe will be the stars of tomorrow in cinema, music, fashion, theatre, visual art, dance and chefs.

Sanghyun Samuel Kim – Surrey Art Gallery: Arts 2008 Exhibition

Into the Depth

First year student Sanghyun Samuel Kim was awarded first place in the category Painting on Paper for his work Into the Depth (oil, acrylic, and wax) in the annual juried Arts 2008 Exhibition, organized by the Arts Council of Surrey, in collaboration with the Surrey Art Gallery.

In addition to painting, over the past couple of years, Samuel has been exploring sculpture using found materials to comment on the destructive nature of consumerism. The exhibition features work by both local and regional artists and runs through to September 21, 2008.

ARTS 2008 was presented by the Arts Council of Surrey at the Surrey Art Gallery recently. Now in its 24th year, this juried exhibition celebrates the diverse artistic talents of both established and emerging visual artists. The exhibition featured works by artists from Surrey and the surrounding region.

Current third year student, Mandar Lebovitz, has a solo exhibition Flying at the Sydney and Gertrude Zack Gallery. Flying takes the viewer on a journey into those places in nature inspired by inner reflections and dreams. They are one's inner landscapes.
