The design brief for this project was to design a cover, contents page, department/column page, editor's page, two feature spreads, and two portfolio spreads for the Applied Arts Magazine contest. The designs must be transferable to future issues. As a reinvention of Applied Arts, I chose to address the rich history of this magazine, which dates back to 1986. I opted for a nostalgic visual style that borrowed from vintage American trade magazines, yet still contemporary enough to interest...

This branding project for the Access Conference was done in collaboration with Jack Curtis. The primarily technology-based event is the largest librarian conference in Canada and on average attracts upwards of 200 people.

Our concept was based on our tagline "a new generation of ideas" and inspired our lightbulb avatar to represent the diverse collection of minds at this conference. Our avatar could be personalized for each attendee or speaker. We also created a campaign for their...

Find Your Routes was a response to Vancouver's current bike signage. They were designed not as THE solution, but a conversation starter for the city to reimagine the possibilities of an improved bike wayfinding system. For a time when Vancouver is pushing to be "Canada's Greenest City", improving the current bike system and giving it a new face would generate attention for the city. The design brief was to give the current Vancouver International Film Festival a facelift, with collaterals including a new logo, posters, a letterhead, and assorted material. My approach was give the festival a bold look that can be easily applied to all materials. The movie stills are framed within the pop-ups of the titles as to give viewers a different perspective on seeing these films.

Lubalin Reimagined was a commemorative stamp project inspired by an influencial type designer. Herb Lubalin was the father of conceptual typography whose style embodies American graphic design of the late 1950's to the late 1970's. I wanted to pay homage to his bold era of graphic type design.

I created a pane of 16 stamps, a souvenir sheet, a first day of issue postmark, and a corresponding first day cover.

You Are Here was a monograph documenting my bike trip across Canada in 2010. This was designed as a two-part series, breaking up the trip into two halves, with the first one ending at the end of Winnipeg. These were designed as smaller books so that each member that participated in the trip could receive one cheaply. The written content was pulled from the blog entries we made while on the road, accompanied by pictures and memorabilia collected along the way.
