'13 MAA grad Katherine Soucie and her thesis project are featured in the latest edition of Beatroute Magazine.
Along with her studies, (she also completed her undergraduate degree here after attending the two-year Capilano U textiles program), she's managed to grow a successful, sustainable business, Sans Soucie, over the past ten years.
The University is pleased to announce that 2013 grad Rowan Liivamägi has received the British Columbia Industrial Design Association's Student Award of Excellence for her project Väärtus -- assistive jewellery that empowers women with arthritis.
The BCID Student Award of Excellence is presented each year to a student in the industrial design program at Emily Carr University whose thesis project demonstrates an outstanding understanding of the product development process.

Congratulations to alumnus Stan Douglas ('82), who was named the recipient of the Scotiabank Photography Award, which is given annually to Canadian contemporary photographer. In addition to a cash prize of $50,000, Douglas will have a solo exhibition at the CONTACT Photography Festival in Toronto next year, and a collection of Douglas’ work will be published internationally.

Two Emily Carr faculty have been awarded Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) grants in the latest round of applications. This is a success rate of 40% higher than most Universities!
Bob Rennie, CEO of Rennie Marketing Systems, has a long history of supporting Emily Carr students and alumni. For nearly two decades, Bob has contributed to scholarships, awards, and research programs that benefit individual students and facilitate academic excellence.
Bob has also been very generous with his time. In 2010, he was appointed as a Director-at-Large for the Emily Carr Board of Governors, the body that manages, administers and directs the affairs of the University. Since then, he has advocated tirelessly for Emily Carr, even while he contributes his time to various other arts and culture organizations in Vancouver.
Glasgow-based Canadian artist and alumna Corin Sworn ('02) has been named the winner of the Max Mara Art Prize for Women, (January 23, 2014).
The prize includes a six-month residency in Italy, followed by two major solo exhibitions at the Whitechapel Gallery in London and Collezione Maramotti near Milan.
Her winning proposal is said to "reflect her continued interest in exploring storie around migration" through a focus on the rich history of costuming at the Commedia dell'Arte, and touring Italian acting troupes from the 16th centruy onwards.
Associate Researcher, Sylvia Grace Borda (’95), in partnership with Google Business Photographer, John M Lynch, have created ground-breaking net artworks using Google Street View.
Janice Wu ('13) was one of eight Canadian artists selected to illustrate the new Chinatown Gate Stamp Series for Canada Post. These stamps feature eight different gates of Chinatown, located in Victoria, Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Mississauga, Ottawa and Montréal.
The stamp series was launched in Canada Post locations on May 1, 2013.
Congratulations to Associate Professor Elizabeth McIntosh on her recent VIVA Award win.
Tanabe has been an important figure in Canadian art for over 60 years, contributing immensely to landscape traditions in contemporary Canadian painting. And at 86, he claims he has no plans to retire anytime soon - watch for his next solo exhibition in April 2014.
The prize is sponsored by BC arts philanthropist Michael Audain and his family foundation, the Audain Foundation for Visual Arts, and is awarded annualy to a BC artist for lifetime achievement.
