description
rila was a collaborative project between ECUAD students Lisa Boulton and Karen Byskov. Rice paper was used with water to bind two pieces of fabric. After adding the wet rice paper the fabric pieces can be molded into a desired shape and left to dry. They can later be re-wet and molded into a new shape. One of the key objectives for the project was to connect fashion and customization with sustainable design strategies. The project was included in the Craft of Use event in London March 2014.

Primarily, this began as an exploration of form. I thought of bones and how beluga skin captures soft undulations of light under the water. I wanted to make something that would impact a person's affect without being directive. I am interested in the capacity for art to present that which is ineffable and unfamiliar.
