Detritus Series II

description

Detritus I & II

These portfolios of images examine the situations where art is found, in production or in its finished state, in studios, art schools, museums, biennales, the street, and sometimes the domestic realm.

Humans are hard-wired to manipulate reality: We are devoted to constructiing, acquiring, rearranging, deconstructing, recycling and disposing of stuff.

Art is as much a byproduct of such urges as it is an elevated, freestanding activity. In my photographs I hope to explore the modes of consumption common to art and the everyday.

Paint Looper

video

description

Group InteractiveToy project for Core Design IV. The Lego Mindstorm kit was used to prototype an interactive children's toy. The Kit also introduced our class to sensor technologies and programming languages.

The Paint Looper's actions are triggered by instruments. After a sensor inside the instrument has been activated, a resulting action is triggered (eg. paint is pushed through plastic syringes onto a previously activated spinning canvas).

Teachers are Tyrants

description

Teachers are Tyrants is a jest of a painting installation. With the politics of the classroom in mind, I set about depicting a tableau of an unlikely protesters rallying against the most fearsome of instructors: Ben Reeves.

(*disclaimer: Ben Reeves is actually the most lovely and democratic of instructors, as you may imagine, based on my freedom to set up such an installation without suffering some kind of horrid penalty.)
