Emily Carr Announces New Board Members

Emily Carr University of Art + Design is pleased to announce that we have received notification from the Ministry regarding our Board appointments. We are delighted to announce that Debra Hoggan has been reappointed to the Board for an additional year. We will also have two new members joining us, Arnold Fine and Rick Mischel, each for one year terms commencing December 30, 2010.

Food for Library Fines

From December 1 - 18, you can pay off your Library fines with food or cash donations for the Vancouver Food Bank.

Each non-perishable food item counts as $1 towards your Library fines. The Library will also donate all cash fines received to the Food Bank. The Food Bank is able to triple the purchasing power of the donated dollar by buying in bulk.

These are the Vancouver Food Bank's most needed food items:

  • Canned meat/fish
  • Peanut butter
  • Bags of whole wheat pasta/rice
  • Pasta sauce
  • Canned fruit/vegetables
  • Cereal
  • Baby formula
  • Baby food

The Ceramics Program at Emily Carr strives to cultivate a community of individuals with diverse interests and skills, and to foster collaboration and cross-pollination between art and design.

Final Day to Complete the Library Survey

The Library is keen to hear your thoughts on their operating hours. As such, they're conducting a 10-question survey to help plan Library service.

The last day to take part in the survey is today, Monday, November 15.

There is a daily prize draw (copy cards and books) for completing the survey. Responses are anonymous.

ECU Press at The New York Art Book Fair

Kathy Slade recently returned from The New York Art Book Fair where she presented the ECU Press and Charles H. Scott Gallery's new titles - a fantastic opportunity to see new books, show off the University's books, and engage with publishers, artists, and designers.

ECU Press' Modern Optical Experiments in Typography  by alum Mark Soo (02) and Tim Lee, received a mention in The New Yorker, (November 10, 2010).

Vancouver is a city that celebrates its multicultural tapestry, and the University offers international students a chance to thrive in its rich artistic environment.

Coming to Emily Carr means an opportunity to meet people and share your culture and ideas with others. The International Office regularly hosts social events for students, celebrates International Week each November and offers welcome receptions in September and January, with orientations to the University.

What do Coast Salish artist and (Emily Carr Honorary Degree recipient) Susan Point, social media guru and SIM Centre Director, Dr. Alexandra Samuel, and artist and '78 alumna Martha Sturdy have in common? All have been named to the 100 BC Women of Influence list by The Vancouver Sun.
