Faculty and Alumni Featured in Not Sent Letters & Guests

Not Sent Letters & Guests forms public constellations of durational practice uninhibited by the realpolitik conditions of contemporary art as a professional sphere.  Artist Jeremy Todd (06) organizes each event as an extension of his continuous Not Sent Letters project. Jeremy is joined by improvisational soundscape trio Pink Island.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Glenna Evans (4th year Visual Arts).  Glenna, a competitive longboarder (skateboarder), passed away Friday July 9th, as a result of a longboarding accident in North Vancouver. She was an exceptional student who had a passion for the arts, a love of life and a commitment to her local community.

Dr. Cameron Cartiere Appointed New Dean of Graduate Studies

Emily Carr University of Art + Design is very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Cameron Cartiere as Dean of Graduate Studies.

Cameron will be taking her new post in September after working as Director of Graduate Studies for the Department of Media and Cultural Studies at Birkbeck College at the University of London as well as being the Co-Director of the Master of Arts Program in Arts Policy and Management and the Co-Director of the Centre for Media, Cultural and Creative Practice also at Birkbeck.

Emily Carr University of Art + Design students and alumni are internationally recognized for their rich contributions to art, media and design, and for continually improving the way our world looks and functions. Yet without financial assistance many of them could not afford to bring their ideas to fruition. Post-secondary education is inaccessible to many and often the most gifted students are simply unable to bear the financial burden of continuing their education. Often, students that require help greatly outnumber assistance that is available.

At an intimate ceremony held last Thursday [June 3, 2010], at the Residence of France, Vancouver, Dr. Ron Burnett quietly joined the ranks of distinguished Canadians, such as Carol Shields and Margaret Atwood, when he received France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, in recognition of his contributions to world culture.

James Rout | University Librarian

Emily Carr is pleased to announce the appointment of James Rout as University Librarian. 

James will be taking his new post in September after working as Head of Library and Archives Services at The Banff Centre, a position he has held since 2006.  James was also Head Librarian from 2004-2006 and Art Librarian from 1999-2004 at The Banff Centre.

The French government has bestowed the prestigious award of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) on Dr. Ron Burnett, President + Vice-Chancellor of Emily Carr University of Art + Design. The official ceremony will take place June 3, 2010.
