Bantjes - Stamp Concept

images

description

As part of a class in typographic systems, we were challenged to create a concept commemorative stamp system for Canada Post. Choosing Marian Bantjes was a reflection of my interest in her work. We were instructed to reference both the process and work of the artist/designer we were commemorating. With Bantjes, it became clear that it would be too superficial to work from her calligraphic works. I looked deeper into her book, and attending her talk at Emily Carr University. In the end I decided to focus on her love of patterns, codes and structure. I created a pattern from the manipulated letterforms of her name and created a stamp system based on this. I included a calligraphic reference in the international stamp.
