Typographic Music Poster • Imagine Dragons
audio
description
In the world of music, not only can the spoken word be emotive & evocative—it can also be expressed and brought alive through typography. This typographic poster was inspired by musical sensation, Imagine Dragons' On Top of the World, and brings to light the colourful and uplifting landscape of the song piece. Situated atop an oceanic gradient, it has been designed to allow the eye to follow the lyrics through a deep sea journey.

description
This poster was created with the Weltformat 11 Plakat Festival in mind, an international student poster competition rooted in Germany. In 2011, the theme of the competition was "Poster for the Poster".
The design was inspired by the expressive and communicative nature of posters and the International Typographic Style.
Swan Lake Booklet
description
This project was made as an exploration of expressive typography in the storytelling of a traditional folktale. Choosing Anthea Bell’s narrative of the clasical ballet play Swan Lake, I designed the pages of this booklet to echo the tone of the story in notes of romanticism, the delicate voices of the swans and the poetic nature of the play. The typefaces used for these expressions were Adobe Caslon, Scala Sans and Electra. Working within limitations such as no use of imagery/illustrations, the project represents a challenge to rely on typographic expression alone to convey action and emotion.
Expressive Literature - Grad Project (in progress)
description
(In Progress)
To tackle the alarming deficiency in current North American young adult literacy, I am proposing to redesign classical literature to be more understandable, engaging, and inspiring using expressive and possibly dynamic expressive typography. I would like to ultimately stimulate a previously lost appreciation of literature and the English language in addition to improving reading comprehension and effectuating more frequent reading.
I plan on creating a focus group with university students and testing their responses to all three types of typography: regular typography, expressive static typography, and expressive kinetic typography.
As I am currently working on this project, I will be updating my portfolio as it progresses.
Expressive Type Poster

This project was to design an Expressive Type poster based on a choice of song, utilizing 2 typefaces from different time periods.
The typefaces I used were Scala Sans and Mrs. Eaves, and song choice was 'Don't know why' by Norah Jones.
