For this project, students were asked to create a large format poster that mimicked the style of woodtype posters. We were allowed to choose any piece of text and use it as content. My choice was the famous love letter by Ludwig Van Beethoven.

This project is about telling a fairy tale only by using topography.The story is a Chinese story, Three Monks No Water.The story is based on the ancient Chinese proverb "One monk will shoulder two buckets of water, two monks will share the load, but add a third and no one will want to fetch water."

The goal is to make a Wood Type Poster that takes away attention from a distance (which is the purpose of Wood Type Posters). I applied the style of traditional Communist Propaganda posters to the contemporary design.

Fire Goddess

Pele is the Goddess of fire, dance, lightening and volcanoes. I chose one of many stories about her for this typography fairytale project. Pele's black hair of lava, her fierce fire of red, and contrasting warm, peaceful Hawaiian climate all inspired the design of the book.
