Going To Sea | Vancouver Martime Museum

An exhibition of work by Emily Carr students entitled Going to Sea will be at the Vancouver Maritime Museum from December 14, 2012 - March 24, 2013.

The exhibition is the culmination of a Visual Arts class taught by Charles H. Scott curator, Cate Rimmer ('86), in which students explored the subject of the sea through the collections of the Maritime Museum.

Exhibiting students include: Lydia Brown, Ricardo Castanedo-Laredo, Zoe Cillier, Mali Fischer-Levine, Maegan Harbridge, Christine Kessel, Deborah Kisiel, Erika Younghwa Lim, Elaine Low, Angela McGrath, Kendal McQuire, Set Narathipphatthara, Katherine Neil, Dylan Humphreys, and Krystal Stone.

Fourth year Visual Arts (Illustration) student Patrick Wong has two illustrations accepted into the Society of Illustrators Los Angeles Illustration West 51 Show later this year.

The website will open in conjunction with the Exhibition Opening Night at Gallery Nucleus on March 8, 2013.

The 51st Annual Illustration West Exhibition will take place at Gallery Nucleus
with an opening Reception on March 8th at 7pm.

NATURAL CAPITAL is a community projects course in partnership with Canada's leading environmental organization, the David Suzuki Foundation (DSF) through the Faculty of Culture + Community. Through a dynamic and collaborative approach to documentary practices, students aim to build meaningful community connections and create digital narratives featuring diverse community perspectives on nature's benefits in Vancouver.  Students have also had a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with national project partners at OCAD University, Toronto.

Rain City Illustration of Emily Carr presents Underworlds and Afterlives at Lion's Den Gallery.

The work of Rain City Illustration will be on display from Friday, November 30 through Monday, December 3, 2012. An opening reception will take place on November 30 at 7pm and will feature the music of Joseph and the Familiar Strangers as well as prizes and art.

Jordan Dowler-Coltman | Banff Centre IDEA Summit

Current fourth year student Jordan Dowler-Coltman will be acting as faculty speaker at The Idea Summit 2012 in Banff this October.

Jordan is the president and co-founder of Skyward Motion Pictures. Skyward has produced two feature films, several shorts and a live multi media dance work called Static Motion. He is currently directing 'The Depths', a conceptual underwater dance film in stereo 3D.

DARWIN is a ceramic multiple that was collaboratively designed and produced by students and faculty of the Illustration program. It adopts the strategy of the designer toy “platform” (or "blank"), popularized by Urban Vinyl subculture, inviting transformation through surface design.

Winning surface design submissions will receive blank forms to decorate. The competition is open to current Emily Carr students and alumni who have attended within the last four years.

We begin the 2012 fall semester with 520 new undergraduate students and 20 new graduate students for a total student population of close to 1900 students from over 60 countries. These students represent part of the next generation of visual artists, media artists and designers who will have a significant impact on the future of the creative industries in Canada and the world.

U-Pass BC for Fall 2012

The U-Pass BC program is an integrated comprehensive transportation package that provides students in Metro Vancouver with universal, accessible and affordable access to public transit and other sustainable transportation programs. It is a mandatory program for all members of the Emily Carr University Student Union and costs $30.00 per month ($120 per semester).

Nomi Chi | Enter the Void

Third year Illustration major Nomi Chi is the featured artist in Enter the Void at Ayden Gallery.

Her work takes interest in surreal and humorous relationships between people and nature. Whether through illustration, tattooing, painting or sculpting, the focus of Chi's creative output has always been to give all the creatures she creates their fair share of attention.

Supporting artists include Mark Illing ('12) and 4th year student Alison Woodward, among others.
