Larch

description

This collapsable chair was produced for 18 Karat, a local furniture boutique. Made from locally sourced wood species of Larch with my teamates Omar Qubain and Simona Hruskova. Part of the project was a trip into Nelson, meeting the people that plant, harvest and process our wood, to inform our design.

Asetically we strove for movement, weightlessness created by square legs, echoed by the seat and the back.

Balloon Chair

description

Textiles are routinely connected to physical and social acts of hiding and exposure. In this project, the school chair was used as a base to create a mutable soft form artifact that explores the notion of things hidden and things exposed. A group project with Jacquie Quenneville and Florence Liang.

New Monobloc

description

Transforming the common white plastic lawn chair

Through mass production, plastic lawn chairs have become so common and blended into our everyday environment. They are considered to be inferior, disposable pieces of furniture, if considered furniture at all. By taking in historic references from the antique and reducing those forms to their essences, the chair is given a new authority.

PUFFchair

description

PUFFchair is a transformative chair made for Helene Day-Fraser's Structure and Cloth course. Centered around the idea of Hidden/Exposed, PUFFchair has a hidden internal pocket containing an air bladder which can be pulled out and inflated to a huge size.

PUFFchair transforms from an average studio chair to a snooze-inducing cloud.
