description
The Head Vs. Heart is a series of interactive objects about depression. The purpose of this project is encourage an open discourse about depression by giving transparency to invisible symptoms, thereby promoting a better understanding of the condition and dispelling stigma.
Through satire, the body of work represents direct and literal interpretations of common advice given to those who are depressed. Posing as familiar accessories, each object reveals a hidden quality which speaks to the characterizations of depression, in appearance, experience, and tactility.

Jio-Hu (酒狐): A Sake Bottle
description
The shape of this sake bottle is inspired by an old Chinese folktale (ghost story) that my grandma used to tell me when I was little: In the ancient time, when it was very late at night, intoxicated man often got possessed by fox spirit who disguised herself as a beautiful woman with a wide-brimmed rain hat. The drunken man would take her home, and in the end, he would be eaten by the fox spirit.
The requirement of this project was to model the object on Rhinoceros 4.0 and afterward, oursource/ 3d print, and assemble the components together.

The Thug
description
This Thug is the first exploration into this character. He is an awkward man who is insecure with himself and this is seen in his gesture and through the colours (orange, Barbie pink shirt and sledge hammar). I also would like to hint toward a cross dressing aspect with this man, and I'm still attempting to realize his relation with my other three characters: The Jester, The Bird, and The Pornstar.
The Search: Jester searching for a fix
description
This jester is 8x6 inches and is searching for the bird, my metaphor for searching for a fix or bad desire. This Jester is also a sample work to a larger idea.
The Jester: Consumption
description
This Jester is 2 ft high and about 1 ft wide. He has one eye missing and is happily eating a bird. This sculpture is extremely refined and is my first attempt to bring the Jester into the 21st Century (as I've changed the shape, tradition of the hat, and removed all fabric texture).
Bad Desires
description
'Bad Desires' is a 8x6 inch, earthen ware (ceramic) piece created in Spring 2010. It became a sample to larger ideas. This piece speaks about bad consumption as the Jester is about to consume a small bird. On the back of the walls are drawings of emty liqour bottles and shot glasses.
