Faculty Research Highlights

Most faculty at Emily Carr are pursuing their own creative practices in art and design and in research projects, in addition to careers as educators and leaders. Their practice-based research integrates the professional practice of an artist or designer with specific research questions, methods and outcomes.

The research can be about art, for example examining the work of a particular artist or group in a new context. It might be “research for art” in the form of an exploration of new technologies like 3D printing that can be used by artists. Finally, it might be “research as art” where the outcome of the work is not a published paper but an installation, performance, or work of art which communicates the outcome of the research to the viewer.
