ECU's Response to COVID-19:
Faculty and staff mailboxes are located in the mailroom (C2272). The mailroom is accessible to faculty and staff only.
When leaving anything for delivery with Reception to the mailroom, always include your name and student number and the full name of the person it is intended for as well as the full identification of the class they teach, i.e.: Patrik Andersson, AHIS 404 Art Now.
The Receptionist on duty will date stamp and sign your paper and deliver it to the mailroom when they are able to leave the desk. Take note that this can mean that papers will take up to 4 hours for delivery depending on when you drop the paper off.
Under no circumstances will an assignment or correspondence left in the wooden Mailbox chute beside the mailroom be delivered. It will go to the Reception desk for date stamping and delivery. If there is no clear indication of who the correspondence is from or who it is going to, it will be shredded.
The mailroom also houses photocopy machines for staff and faculty use only. Students have access to photocopiers located in the library.
Medical insurance includes doctor’s visits, hospital visits, and necessary medical tests or services. The Medical Services Plan of BC (MSP) is the basic coverage for all residents of BC, including international students. You will qualify for MSP after a waiting period of approximately three months (90 days).
While you are waiting for your MSP coverage, you are required by law to have private comprehensive health and accident insurance. You MUST arrange for private medical insurance. Emily Carr University recommends guard.me www.guard.me or you may choose your own private insurance company (minimum $2 million coverage).
Upon arrival at the University you will be required to provide proof of your medical insurance coverage to Emily Carr’s Student Services. Upon proof of insurance you will be given your student identification card and instructions about how to apply for The Medical Services Plan of BC (MSP). For more information about the MSP plan and to download an application for enrollment please visit the Medical Services Plan of BC website. All students studying on a study permit MUST enroll in MSP. It is the student’s responsibility to submit an MSP Application for Enrollment and to ensure that they are covered by MSP. Further, it is the student’s responsibility to pay the MSP premiums each month.
As a member of the Emily Carr Students’ Union, taking a minimum of 9 credits, you are automatically part of the Greenshield Extended Health and Dental Plan for coverage between September 1st and August 31st. The plan is secondary to your basic provincial coverage (MSP-Medical Services Plan) with travel insurance up to 180 days, prescription drug, paramedical, medical supplies, vision, and dental coverage. The plan is mandatory unless you already have extended health and dental coverage (not MSP) from another source (parent, spouse, or employer) and then you are eligible to opt-out of the plan by stopping by the ECSU office before the end of September.
More info about using the plan can be found on http://ecsu.ca
If you are new to Canada, apply for MSP as soon as you arrive. Your coverage may start three months after your arrival date in British Columbia.
If you are moving from another province, you should arrange for coverage with your former medical plan during the wait period.
