Radio Free Emily Logo Submission

description

Our local school radio station, Radio Free Emily (now known as Rat Island Transmissions) held an open call for logo submissions. I picked a subject that would graphically represent music and the creativity at Emily Carr, and would be easily manipulatable to various forms (buttons, stickers, posters, etc.)

Typographic Song Poster
Suicidewinder, Ridley Bent

This assignment was to create a single poster using the lyrics of one song. The poster was to convey the tone and feel of the chosen song. The song I chose was "Suicidewinder" by Ridley Bent, a dark, highspirited, roughneck "hick-hop" song for the basass in everyone.

Deliverables: 1 24" x 16" poster

Typography can be highly emotive and evocative. It can be as lively as illustration or photography. Not only can it be used to present content with clarity and precision, it can also be used to express and interpret content.

This assignment is to combine both expressiveness and clarity of typographic design. By creating a poster that makes dynamic, expressive use of more than one typefaces to present and interpret the lyrics of a song.

Musical Charette - LP Album Cover/Poster

images

description

The charrette involves the process of creating a poster/ small CD booklet
on a very short timeline (one week). The short segment (song, movement,
etc.) is the basis for creating original imagery for the project.

I chose the instrumental piece Comptine D'un Autre Ete: L'Apres Midi by Yann Tiersen. The vibe is very mellow, thus I used pastel colors and geometric shapes to form this composition. This was my interpretation of the musical piece upon listening to it numerous times.
