Flight Lamp

description

Flight Lamp is a substantial desk lamp with fine details and materials, that can be shipped deconstructed in an 11"x17" envelope. The shade is laser cut from Spruce aircraft plywood, the dowels are birch hardwood, and the legs are either solid polished Brass or Copper. The materials and finish have been meticulously chosen to match their possible patinas. When the brass oxidizes, it darkens and will compliment its all black counterparts. As for the copper legs, they will turn a minty green, complimenting the mint stained shade. Like most objects that are meant to transcend generations, components of the flight lamp can be removed easily and cared for. The legs are easily removed for polishing if one wants to retain the mirrored finish of the brass or copper.

Paradice

description

Paradice is mp3 player amplifier. Many people repurpose ghettoblasters as mp3 player amps by using a tape adapter in the cassette player connected to their iphone. Paradice takes the amp and loud speakers from the ghettoblaster and does away with the un-needed casstte and tunner components. Paradice is a set of two speakers with an amp inside one and a space to conceal your mp3 player in the other. The two speakers are connected by a heavy duty cable that can be used as a handle or a way to connect paradice to other objects such as handlebars of a bike or the branch of a tree. Paradice 's speakers are kept safe from an active lifestyle by replaceable silicone covers.

Waste for Life - Damas

description

Waste for Life was a project that I completed during my mobility/exchange semester at the Rhode Island School of Design in the Spring of 2012. Our advanced studio sought to create product lines made of recycled HDPE bottles. These product lines would serve to inspire a partnering trash-picking co-op in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

This project was in partnership with the non-profit, Waste for Life which is network of institutions that provide scholarly research and product development for social enterprises in the Third World.

Clictogons

description

Starting out as a childrens toy quickly lead to another use when adults were user tested. Although children had a good building experience, it was when the Clictogons were turned into a wine rack that the full potential of the product was realised.

Using CNC machining for the production run Clictogons were easily manufactured on a large scale and for a very low cost.

Processes used were 5 axis CNC milling machine and a laser cutter.

description

Para is a cutting board designed and manufactured at Emily Carr University on Granville Island. Designed as a response to the static cutting boards offered today, Para presents the user with a dynamic cutting surface that enriches the food cutting experience. The channel at the far end of the board acts as a trough for cut bits of food or waste pieces. Para is available in both a scoop trough, ideal for hand use, and angled trough, designed for knife use. The twenty degree parallelogram mimics the cutting angle of a right handed person. Para is constructed using heat treated birch and has a 1.5 inch quality thickness.

FEATHERS - Functional Engagement in Assisted Therapy through Exercise Robotics

description

FEATHERS is a collaboration between Emily Carr and a group of engineers and researchers at UBC under the direction of Prof. Mike van der Loos. It is about using computer games as motivation to aid the upper-limb rehabilitation for adults who have suffered stroke and children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy where they have weakness in one side of their bodies.  I have developed a pair of bi-manual game controllers that will allow the these two disparate groups of users to play facebook games with both their hands and arms on the computer for therapy.
