Interlibrary Loan
Hours
Today9am-5pm
Tomorrow9am-5pm
Current students, staff and faculty can request books, journal articles, and eBook chapters from other libraries by using our free Interlibrary Loans (ILL) service.
How do I place an ILL request?
There are several ways to place an interlibrary loan request:
- In the General Search catalogue, turn off the ‘Available in Library Collection’ filter to see articles that are outside the ECU collection and available through Interlibrary Loan. Place your request directly in the catalogue (For instructions on how to turn off the filter, see the ’Available in Library Collection' filter Highlight section of the General Search guide)
- For articles not in the General Search catalogue, or for eBook chapters and physical books, use the form below.
- Contact the ILL department at 604.844.3077 or ill@ecuad.ca
You will be notified by email when your request is ready.
What can I request?
- Physical books
- eBook chapters (licensing prevents lending of entire eBooks)
- Articles in journals (physical or electronic)
Delivery times
- 3-5 working days for journal articles and eBook chapters, which will be emailed to you via a download link
- Up to 10 working days for books (or longer if material is coming from outside BC)
Working days are Monday-Friday.
Loan times, renewing and returning
All loan periods for physical items are set by the lending libraries and are typically 3 weeks. The loan period will be indicated on the item.
Unfortunately you cannot always renew ILL items. To request a renewal, contact the ILL department by phone or email, or visit the library service desk.
Please return all ILL materials to the Emily Carr Library, NOT to the lending library (i.e. where the book came from).
Request Interlibrary Loan Books, Articles or eBook Chapters
For articles not in the General Search catalogue, or for eBook chapters and physical books, use the form below. When filling out the form, choose either “returnable (loan)” for physical books or “non-returnable (copy)” for online articles and eBook chapters.
Other ways to get books
If you are on a tight deadline, you can borrow items from other BC post-secondary libraries in person as a reciprocal borrower.
You can search the province-wide catalogue to see if there is a local copy for you to pickup on your own (includes public and post-secondary libraries in BC).
More information can be found on our 'Borrow from other libraries' page.
