Cosmos

description

The purpose of this assignment was to explore typography using the dimensions of old woodtype posters. For the poster's content I chose a quote about Carl Sagan’s death by his wife, Ann Druyan. The message is about finding eachother in the cosmos, and appreciating how temporary that was. I chose to reflect the quietness of the quote by setting the type white
on white, ensuring the reader has to get close to the piece in order to
read the message.

Branding and curation design for the Emily Carr University of Art & Design Design 4th year design exhibition.
For the theme of the show we came up with the idea for floating forms suspended in time. This reflected the way we,
as fourth years felt about the beginning of our last year. Taking from the aesthetics of the design department and
the name of the show we came up with a floating form, a concrete ball. This idea of suspension was continued into the
exhibition design with a hanging poster suspended in the gallery.
Collaboration with Justin Alm & Grey Vaisius.

Alcuin Awards Poster

description

The outline for this project was simple, design a poster for the Alcuin Awards hosted at Emily Carr University. The Alcuin Awards honors both
innovation and craft in book design. With this in mind I took inspiration from two very different places: Art Nouveau Book covers, and neon signs.
My aim was contemporize and hi-light the detail oriented nature of book design.

Metric Typography Concert Poster

Alcuin Awards Poster

description

This poster was created for the 29th annual Alcuin Awards, a program that recognizes excellence in Canadian book design. Created in my Advanced Typography course, it was my intention to reflect a more traditional side of book design. The poster was inspired by bookplates, which are also known by their Latin name ex libris, translating to "from the books." As an extra challenge, although the piece was welcome to have subtle image elements, it was required to focus primarily on the use of typography.

Move Pen Move

This poster was created using Shane Koyzan's poem "Move Pen Move". I wanted to strike a balance between Koyzan's personality and masculinity through a piece that is so tender and personal.

Dimensions: 17 inches by 50 inches

Weekly News Poster

images

description

For the Graphic Design course at WdKA I was asked to do a poster response to a news item in a certain week. The aim was to do a poster within a quick turnaround deadline.

I chose to respond to the news coverage about the 2010 Nobel Peace prize being given to Chinese dissident Liu XiaoBo. The poster shows the prize as a metaphor for foreign pressure for political reform, critiquing and questioning the amount of power it actually has in bringing change when facing the Chinese government (depicted as Chairman Mao ZeDong).
