"Help Wanted!" --- Contemporary Interpretation of a Wood Type Poster

description

This assignment is to produce a contemporary interpretation of a wood type poster. It is not required to look historical but exciting,strong,dynamic,explosive,eye-catching. Also, it should be a thoughtful, intelligent, appropriate expression of the text that it contains.

For this assignment, I collected various hiring advertisements from different sources and use different typefaces to express the contents. Each of the ads has its own hirachy and focus, like a little story on its own. Then I organize all these ads in certain ways so that the poster is unified.

Poster Size: 17" x 50"

City Blossoms Garden Parade

description

This project was created with City Blossoms, a non-profit foundation dedicated to working with schools, neighborhood groups, community centers and other organizations to create spaces for children to use their creativity and combined strength and skills to learn how to grow and maintain fantastic yet functioning gardens. The assignment at hand was to work with City Blossoms to determine what design piece would best serve them. After interviewing program organizers, as well as some of the children enrolled in programs, I determined that a fundraising tool would best benefit the organization.

Hiatus

description

"So stellar have Lauryn Hill's accomplishments been during her brief tenure as musical artist, one wonders what she can do to match all that's happened in her life so far."

Hiatus is a monograph on Hill's success and decade-long hiatus, with articles from various sources that documented her activities up-to-date. A flipbook.

Marc Jacobs Monograph

description

These two books were designed in reaction to an article written about fashion designer Marc Jacobs and his perspective on runway models.

The first book is a written article with imagery that corresponds to it. The second book goes through a series of Marc Jacobs' collection over 5 years. The second book strongly reflects what he talks about in the first booklet.

Emily Carr University Creative Student Planner

description

One of the two graduation projects. This project focused on how students at Emily Carr University plan their life. The current planner offered at Emily Carr University does not provide any freedom for students to use and expand their creativity.

This planner introduces the students to a mesh of a planner and a sketchbook. The purpose of this project was not to design something "pretty" but really focus on how the students learn, sketch, plan etc. It was more about trials after trials of testing the product and seeing how students used the redesigned planner.

The planner has fine grid lines to help the user use the line in any way they want. On top of that, the bottom 1/3 of the page is perforated which helps with ripping out the pages for note taking etc.

WWF Campaign

description

A poster series for WWF, a non-profit organization. Raising awareness of the endangered species was the focus.

The image is comical in that the scenario is ridiculous; however, it is an accurate reflection of how many view the what it takes to preserve wildlife.  It is a wake up call, greater action must be taken.
