description

Dongzhi Festival, or Chinese Winter Stolstice Festival, is celebrated around December 22nd, the first day of Dongzhi solar term.

In Chinese culture, Dongzhi festival is a time for family and friends to get together. One of the most significant activities is the making and eating of Tangyuan (glutinuous riceball), which symbolize reunion.

Tuan-Yuan is a candy and riceball tray that symbolically represents reunion. “Yuan” in Chinese means sphere, circle, or ring; it also connotes being together. Tuan-Yuan is made of 8 wood circles weaving with each other, meaning big reunion. The five pedals on the top resembles to the flower of plum, the national flower of Taiwan.

"Help Wanted!" --- Contemporary Interpretation of a Wood Type Poster

description

This assignment is to produce a contemporary interpretation of a wood type poster. It is not required to look historical but exciting,strong,dynamic,explosive,eye-catching. Also, it should be a thoughtful, intelligent, appropriate expression of the text that it contains.

For this assignment, I collected various hiring advertisements from different sources and use different typefaces to express the contents. Each of the ads has its own hirachy and focus, like a little story on its own. Then I organize all these ads in certain ways so that the poster is unified.

Poster Size: 17" x 50"

This is my graduation project. A study and critique of contemporary Canadian building practices has proven that traditional materials and construction techniques have become archaic, irresponsible, and wasteful. CLT, a modern wood technology is explored and improved to incorporate innovations in raw material sourcing, prefab manufacturing, and augmentable operation. Designing with this new technology also expands the products potential. Some key design features are within modular architecture, remote living structures, differing concepts in home ownership, and sustainable incentives $$$. Ultimately, I would like to answer this question: Can we build a home that will grow with our family, retain it's value, be completely sustainable, and live forever?
