eddit Exploded

description

'eddit Exploded' is an analog representation of my grad project 'eddit'. This display is inspired by Gabriele Meldaikyte's “Multi-touch Gestures,” in an effort to helps articulate the framework to viewers. 3D materials and craft are used to communicate the nested layers of the 2D 'eddit' system. This method gives the viewer something tacit to consider while learning about the complex website framework (which layers 3D processes into the 2D world). Still in progress, 'eddit Exploded' is being expanded to communicate the multiple features of the system for display at the grad show in May.

During the fall semester of 2011, I embarked on a "undergraduate" project for the term that aimed to create a communicative support system for online gamers. Gamers are currently hindered with communications across platforms and gaming mediums (consoles, pc, smart phone, etc.). As each developer, producer, etc. attempts to build their own community they seemingly forget that the gaming community does not retain to one console or game. Hence, as gamers move around and change games much of the communication is lost between friends that are made. In order to allow these relationships to continue, a medium was conceived to bridge this gap. Many gamers that continue to communicate build relationships that last months if not years. This is a rising trend I aimed to aid with my project.

Mozilla Foundation – Learning, Freedom and the Web

description

I was one of a team of Emily Carr faculty and students who rose to the challenge, investigating different technology options for creating an ebook that would reflect Mozilla's core principles. That meant building an ebook that could work on iPads and Android tablets, desktop computers and smartphones, and that could be distributed for free. A simple PDF was one option, but it didn't take advantage of the navigation and multimedia opportunities a tablet could provide.

BRAVADO Magazine — High gloss pixels

description

In the Fall Semester of 2011, I redesigned the website for BRAVADO Magazine and performed a full Wordpress implementation for Evan Goodfellow and his staff. The design of the website involved concept development, paper-prototyping, development of HTML, CSS, jQuery, and PHP for Wordpress implementation. The theme BRAVADO now runs on is custom to suit their content. Much thanks to Evan and the crew at BRAVADO.

Applied Arts

description

Our world is becoming increasingly urbanized and interconnected. YVR Airport served as a relevant backdrop for articles about global thinking, information overload, the ethical responsibilities of designers, and the possibilities of working together. The images taken, typographic selections, colors, rules, etc. are all abstractions of the content written within the articles. Images are placed to challenge our perceptions of space and to illustrate the scope of our current global situation. The content provided for me by Applied Arts spoke of the future.

Spiekermann Goes Postal

description

I produced: sixteen unique stamps, each of which serves as a tribute to Spiekermann's design principles; a souvenir sheet featuring the principles of ascender, baseline, italic & justification; and a specially designed protective envelope. I began the process by looking at the visual language of Spiekermann himself as represented by companies he has started. I studied the work of FontShop, EdenSpiekermann, FontBook, Meta Design, and the larger typographic commissions he has completed throughout his career.

Dialogical Space

video

description

Dialogical Space captures the aesthetic experience of the cognitive process and ongoing dialogue that occurs within contemporary communication systems and networks. It is a mixed media work that merges painting, classroom overhead transparencies, diagrams from textbooks, and digital prints, within a collaged process that acknowledges rhizomatic and decentralized systems of knowledge. The end result represents a “working through” of the tenuous nature of ways of knowing.
